കുറേ ദിവസങ്ങളായി ആലോചിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു, ഒരു ബ്ലോഗ് പോസ്ട്റ്റ് മാത്ര്ഭാഷയായ മലയാളത്തില് തന്നെ എഴുതാണമെന്നു. ഇന്നാണതിനു സാദിച്ചത്.

ഗൂഗിള് സമ്മര് ഓഫ് കോഡിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി സ്വതന്ത്ര മലയാളം കമ്പ്യുട്ടിങ്ങ് എന്ന സംഘടന നിര്മിച്ച സോഫ്ടുവെയറുകള് തീര്ത്തും പ്രശംസയര്ഹിക്കുന്നവയാണ്. ‘എന്റെ കമ്പ്യുട്ടറിന് എന്റെ ഭാഷ’ എന്നതാണു à´ˆ സഘടനയുടെ മുദ്രാവാക്യം. സന്തോഷ് തോട്ടിങ്ങല് നിര്മ്മിച്ച സ്വനലേഖ എന്ന സോഫ്ടുവെയര് ഉപയോകിചു ഗ്നു / ലിനക്സ് പ്ലാറ്റ്ഫോമില് അനായാസം മലയാളത്തില് ടയിപ്പു ചെയ്യാന് സാധ്യമാണ്. ഇപ്പോള് à´ˆ ബ്ലോഗ് എഴുതുന്നതു സ്വനലേഖ ഉപയോഗിചാണ്.

സ്വതന്ത്ര മലയാളം കമ്പ്യുട്ടിങ്ങ് ടീമിന്റെ പൂര്ണ്ണ്മായും മലയാളത്തില് തര്ജിമപ്പെടുത്തിയ ഗ്നു / ലിനക്സ് അടിപൊളിയായിട്ടുണ്ട്

ഇന്റര്നെറ്റില് മലയാളം ബ്ല്ളോഗര്മാര് ഈയിടെയായി പെരുകിയിട്ടുണ്ട് . ഇത് പ്രശംസ്നീയം തന്നെ. ഏതായാലും ഒരു കാര്യം ഉറപ്പായി. ‘മലയാളം കൊരച്ചു കൊരച്ചു അരിയാം’ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു നടക്കുന്ന മലയാളികള് കേരളത്തില് ഉണ്ടായതുകൊണ്ടൊന്നും മലയാളഭാഷ മരിക്കില്ല. കാരണം, ഇന്റര്നെറ്റില് ഒരു കൂടം മനുഷ്യരുടെ വ്യവഹാരഭാഷയായി അതു വളരെ പെട്ടെന്നു തന്നെ മാറി കഴിഞ്ഞു. ചാറ്റിങ്ങിലും മറ്റും യുനികോഡ് ഫോഡ് സപ്പോര്ട്ട് വന്നതോടുകൂടെ മംഗ്ളീഷ് രീതിയില് ഇംഗ്ളീഷ് ലിപി ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നതിനു പകരം ശരിയായ മലയാളം ഫോണ്ടു തന്നെ ഉപയോഗിക്കാം. മാത്രുഭാഷയില് ചാറ്റു ചെയ്യുന്നത് ഒരു നല്ല അനുഭവം തന്നെയാണ്. ഇന്റ്ര്നെറ്റിലെ ഏറ്റ്വും വലിയ സര്വ്വവിഞാനകോശമായ വിക്കിപീടിയായുടെ മലയാളം പതിപ്പും രസകരം തന്നെ.

ഈ പ്രവര്ത്ത്നങ്ങള്ക്കു പിന്നില് പ്രവര്ത്തിക്കുന്ന എല്ലാ ഹാക്കര്മാര്ക്കും എന്റെ അഭിനന്തനങ്ങള് !

Being a non-gamer I never tried to make a list of GNU/Linux platformed games. But it has been a headache for me from most guys to whomsever I started speaking about greatness of GNU/Linux environment. They used to start firing me “Is there any good quality games under linux ? Anything other than crap games?”

Here its right time to give them a fired answer. Yeah it is, there are good enough 3D games available yet on Linux. Last day I found digg has dug as post on 3D games. Here it is :

Flightgear

FlightGear Flight Simulator project is an open-source, multi-platform, cooperative flight simulator development project. Source code for the entire project is available and licensed under the GNU General Public License.

The goal of the FlightGear project is to create a sophisticated flight simulator framework for use in research or academic environments, for the development and pursuit of other interesting flight simulation ideas, and as an end-user application.

The Open Racing Car Simulator

TORCS is an open source 3D racing simulator using OpenGL technologies. It is runnable on all Linux, FreeBSD, MacOSX and Windows platforms. There are 50 different cars, 20 tracks and 50 opponents to race against. The multiplayer mode can accommodate up to 4 human players. Several of the simulation include damaged models, collisions and aerodynamics like ground effects, spoilers, etc. Development is currently being carried out to enable online racing mode.

X’mas greeting to all..

I could hear the praise on google from everywhere whenever I take urge of talking something about web. It is arguably true that google does revolutionary jobs on the web. Recently google has come up with yet another revolutionary project, Android.

Android is an Open Handset Alliance Project, co-ordinating around 34 different MNCs to build an open platform mobile handset. Android is a set of SDK for development and a software stack based on GNU/Linux. It seems great when compared to whatever mobile OSs are yet avaliable. They are inviting contributions from OSS community to the project android. Also google’s President Sergy Brin has announced 10,000 million US dollars rewards for best applicaitons developed under android.

Android has an emulator software for GNU/Linux. Ecillipse IDE can be used for development of android applications and plugins and can be tested under this emulation software. Java is the base language for development.
